E.412

The Italian class E.412 is also known as Brenner locomotive because it was in many ways specifically built for this line, not the least of which is that it's capable of running under both electricity systems. They are approved for Italy, Austria and Germany, and I have on occasion seen them in Regensburg (though never close enough to take a good picture). They were hilt in the late 1990s by what is now Bombardier, and are a distant cousin of the TRAXX series (specifically they are a heavily modified variant of the 12X which is the ancestor of the TRAXX family). Here it is parked in Brenner/Brennero station at the summit.
