Go Signal Box

Description

This isn't some sort of weird sports rallying call; the signal box is actually called "Go", short for Goslar Ost (East). All german signal boxes have names consisting of two to three letters and I have no idea why.

Go is one of two signal boxes that frame Goslar station; the other is Gwf (Goslar, West, Fahrdienstleiter). The Fahrdienstleiter is the person in charge of train operations; whoever is stationed at Go just works under his orders. The reason for having two signal boxes is that Goslar still has ancient mechanical signal boxes, and the wires that control the switches can only have a limited length. While there were plans to convert it all to an electronic system, so far, it does not seem to have been implemented.

And, as you can tell, this signal box got an addition that is now a tiny McDonald's.

Seen here is a class 218 locomotive pushing a regional express train to Hanover. I don't like the washed out sky here, to be honest.
