Have a break

Did you see Guardians of the Galaxy yet? If so, did you notice the wave-like glass-covered structure in the background during some scenes, e.g. the initial meet between Starlord, Gamora, Rocket and Groot? While that thing was almost certainly CGI, it was not something made up. No, it was the roof of Liège Guillemins station, the prettiest railroad station in all of Belgium. Inspired by the movie, and since I was nearby (in Aachen, visiting my sister) anyway, I decided to go there and take a few more pictures.

One of the funniest aspects of the station for me is the contrast between the building, which is bright, amazingly clean and beautiful, and the trains in it, which are consistently old, dark and dirty. Such as the AM 80 series EMU, also known as "Break" (different websites list different reasons for why). This one is wearing the second generation paint scheme, which is the only one I've ever seen personally. There's also a newer one that simply looks like they forgot to paint the train at all. And this is one of the more modern and attractive looking Belgian trains. The modern HLE 18 and Siemens Desiro look a bit better (I've not yet seen the latter in this station), but still, they can't really compete.
