Mountain River

Description

I love mountain railways and in general areas where people live in mountains, not only because they are full of interesting technical solutions, but also because they basically prove all that anti-technological culture pessimism wrong. In movies, everything is always like "you can't control nature and now you're being punished for disagreeing!" But in real life, people can control nature just fine, for at least 99.9% of the time, and we keep adding nines to that number. The alps, such as here near Innsbruck, Austria, are a prime example of this. Mudslides and so on constantly threaten the people who live there, but they managed to deal with it, for example by creating huge drain systems such as this one here. All the things that come from the mountain above get funneled through this channel. I have no idea why it has steps, but I'm sure there is a good reason disco veered through centuries of people living in a place where they technically shouldn't and trying to control nature all the same. And it seems to work, most of the time.

Specifically, this picture shows a railway bridge on the Mittenwaldbahn. I misread the timetable and so waited fruitlessly for a train that didn't come, but I still think the picture turned out well on its own.

Final note: I'm typing this on my iPad which is being extremely slow and obnoxious right now for no discernible reason, so I'm sorry for any typos.
