Description

On a vague hunch, my father and I placed ourselves on the road bridge at Alexandra Palace and waited for something interesting to pass by. It worked! The class 08 diesel shunter is a locomotive that feels almost entirely out of place on anything but museum railways, but since nobody seems to have built any new switchers for the UK since (not counting industrial railroads), it'll have to make do. This one is apparently running for Wabtec, a company with a long, storied and moreover complicated history. I believe the Wab still stands for Westinghouse Air Brake, though. Here it is shunting an IC225 set (minus locomotive) around some sort of depot at the station.

The depot just to the north of Alexandra Palace is Bounds Green which is the East Coast depot where all the IC 225's are allocated and maintained, The East coast HST's are allocated to Craigentinny two miles east of Edinburgh
