Apparently, ZLSM is currently working on a third swedish locomotive. The E2 with the number 1040 is partly disassembled, and I would be very surprised if this was not it's boiler. It seems to be undergoing some sort of repair, but I know neither enough about boilers nor enough dutch to understand any details.

It seems almost impossible to find any non-swedish information about the SJ Littera E2. Apparently, it is a 1’D (2-8-0) freight engine and an update of the earlier class E, which, to maximize confusion, is a D (0-8-0). No idea when it will run again, but it looks very interesting.

Though the English is offline, ZSLM has a German language part on their site, and some URL manipulation got me the English page as well. It's not much, and you may have already got it, but it's more than nothing :)

my goodness, does this boiler belong to the chassis on the right? I love what they did with the painjob, especially the red wheelrims

Without looking at any documentation, it looks to me like they're in the process of removing staybolts...the tension rods that hold the crownsheet back against the steam pressure. When a boiler explodes, it's usually because the water level got too low and the crownsheet melted. It's the weakest part of the boiler since it's not a round shape like the rest of the boiler.

That seems to explain it pretty well, thank you!

Also, thank you for the :+fav:! :)

I'm pretty certain it does, and yes, if the chassis is any indication, this will be a rather good-looking machine once it's finished. Thank you for the :+fav:! :)

Ah, thank you for that information! I didn't notice it on their site at all, to be honest.
