Titles are hard when you always post the same

Hey guys, long time no see, and especially no new pictures. Sorry about that. Here, have a steam train.

99 7246 is arriving in Nordhausen Nord, the southern endpoint of the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen network. This doesn't see a lot of steam traffic; most of the tourists stay on the northern end between Wernigerode and Brocken. Here the system is mostly used for regional transport. But still, one or two steam trains a day do make the surprisingly long trip the entire way. The station itself is gigantic, back from the days when it was still a major freight hub - which lasted very long in the chronically truck-starved GDR (which was also lacking everything else for that matter). Nowadays, you could probably get rid of a lot of it, and also all the various trains in storage, such as the 199.8 diesel locomotive you can see hiding behind the building on the left. With the conversion to mostly tourist operation, with DMUs for the rest, most diesel locomotives became unnecessary, as tourists hate those. But on a railroad system that prides itself on history, you can't actually throw stuff away either. So a lot of diesels are in storage in all the various engine sheds all over the system, and a few others stay here.
