Train vs. Bicycle

Description

In case you're not sure which is which, a tip: Trains in Germany (and all over Europe in fact) are required to have three lights in an "A" configuration, so they can't be confused with road vehicles. A single light, on the other hand, is only legal for single-track vehicles, such as bicycles.

This was taken today at the south railroad bridge in Cologne. Unlike the better-known Hohenzollern bridge at the central station, the south bridge has only two tracks and sees almost no passenger traffic. Instead, all freight traffic goes through here. Such as belgian 2806, a Bombardier TRAXX 2E MS, hauling a freight train presumably from Belgium to the Cologne Gremberg classification yard. It had stopped on the bridge due to a red signal, and was just gaining speed again. And yes, I know that you can't see the locomotive properly. That's the point here. :D

Oh, for the record: By the end of the bridge, the locomotive had overtaken the bicycle.

Brings back memories of the bicycle I had while I was in Iraq. I had 4 headlights attached to the handlebars. Any observer would not likely have confused it with a HMMWV, though.
