Description

How do you explain the difference between London Overground and London Underground? Well, it seems simple, really: London Overground is up, London Underground is down. London Above and London Below, so to speak. Of course, this only works if you manage to convince people that Whitechapel station does not exist, because here, the Circle and District line run on the upper tracks, while the London Overground trains run on the lower ones. All below street level, but all open to the air and the fine british rain, because that's so awesome.

Anyway. I love the british approach to station building and hope very much that they never ever introduce it here. It seems they built something really quick out of cast iron in the 19th century, just to get the line running. Then they added to it, maintained it a little (mainly by painting over rust) and anything new, like cables, signage, lights was just added on top of what was already there. Whitechapel station here is a good example, Baker Street even better, but really, all sub-surface stations, many tube stations and several of the smaller mainline stations exhibit this to some degree. It looks nice and quaint and for-tourist-y and stuff, but finding out where you need to go to make your connection and similar questions can be a real pain.

In the rear, a District line train composed of Type D stock is leaving.
